Champagnes from the stunning 2002 vintage should be on the radar of any connoisseur. An all-time great that is getting tough to find. James Suckling advises "Don't miss it" while Juhlin calls it "Stunning". Richard Juhlin is clearly a fan: "The cooperative's wines are ingredients in, for example, Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, Grand Siècle, and Dom Pérignon... The cuvée de prestige Orpale is a stunning wine that I buy every new vintage and the 2002 is no exception"
The Orpale Blanc de Blancs 2002 Grand Cru champagne is the Cuvée de Prestige of the DE SAINT GALL House. It has often been regarded as the best Blanc de Blancs champagne! The "Orpale" signature is only used for the great vintages, and 2002 is one of them. With a light dosage and after a 9 years maturation process, the Cuvée Orpale 2002 deserves its position among the greatest chardonnay wines! It is perfect as an aperitif or, should you wish it to be your meal's partner, with a Saint Jacques shell or creamy poultry.
Grand Cru, 2002 vintage, Blanc de Blancs. Cuvée Orpale 2002 is an outstanding wine, and it is an unbelievable value. We cannot recommend it more highly! 100% Chardonnay from the prime, Grand Cru villages of Cramant, Oger and Mesnil sur Oger, the 10 years it spent gently maturing on its lees has imparted a finesse of mousse and intensity of flavour that is captivating. With a fine, toasty, lemon-scented bouquet, the palate is tightly knit, rich and full of energy, the mousse being mouth-coating and creamily textured. Pull the cork on this now to enjoy it at its most vivacious, fragrant and uplifting; cellar some bottles for 5 years to allow the body to broaden and the layers of flavour to emerge.
