Domaine Merlin-Cherrier is a 14-hectare domaine in Bué, a small village behind the village of Sancerre where vine-covered hillsides surround the town on three sides. The Sancerre Rouge comes from a five-acre plot of Pinot Noir that proprietor Thierry Merlin planted in the 1970s and 1980s. The plot is located on the lower slope of the Chêne Marchand, where a proportion of clay in the otherwise chalky Sancerre soils is well-suited to the Pinot Noir vines.
