Domaine Henri Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets 2014

Volnay, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France

750ml / 13% ABV

Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir

91-93 points Vinous

these vines are 25 to 50 years old; from whiter soil that typical yields a harder, more austere style of wine than the Chevrets): Medium red. More discreet and a bit more medicinal on the nose than the Chevrets. Juicy red berry flavors are lifted by spicy high notes but kept under wraps by salty minerality and a medicinal menthol aspect.. Boasts lovely lift and inner-mouth tension and finishes with very fine-grained tannins, but this very promising wine will require at least a few years of bottle aging to loosen up a bit. 91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

A pungent nose of wood toast, menthol and reduction presently overwhelms the underlying fruit. The supple, sleek and precise medium weight flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension before concluding in a lingering and youthfully austere finish where a hint of bitter fruit pit surfaces. *Outstanding*   (4/2018)

Jancis Robinson

Smoked, toasted oak aromas on the nose with incredible concentration and intensity. Gunflint on the palate, and rich, indulgent bramble fruit. Very stylish and bold, but requires high oak tolerance to enjoy it in its early days. 17.5+/20 points. (RH)   (1/2018)

K&L Notes

90 points Jasper Morris (MW): "Dense deep purple, with more weight of fruit on the nose, this feels attractively complete. It offers a fine wealth of dark fruit in the mouth, with some chocolate notes, indeed succulent. The style is not too forced." (01/2018)

Rack of lamb with a herb crust or seared duck breast particularly accented with red fruits like cherries or blackberries.
